What is a backwater valve?
A device intended to help limit reverse flow from a sanitary sewer into a home under certain conditions. It is not a complete basement flood-prevention system.
Is a backwater valve the same as a sump pump?
No. They address different water paths. A backwater valve relates to sanitary sewer backflow; a sump pump manages groundwater collected by a drainage system.
