Published maximums for backwater valves
The City of Ottawa currently lists a maximum of $1,000 for an indoor sanitary backwater valve, $1,000 for a storm backwater valve and $2,500 for an outdoor storm backwater valve. The City states it will rebate the lesser of the applicable maximum or the cost of the work. These are program maximums—not a promise that a particular property or project will be approved.

- Storm-valve rebate: the property must have been built before January 1, 2004.
- Sanitary-valve rebate: the property must have been built before January 1, 2012.
- The City says work must be complete and the application received within 18 months of the building-permit issue date.
- The program page says rebates are not available for maintenance, repair or replacement of existing protective plumbing devices.

The City's current page notes that the application window changed from 12 to 18 months effective July 1, 2026. Check the live application instructions before authorizing work; program eligibility and payment are determined by the City, not by this website.
